Velkovtsi is a village in West Bulgaria. It is situated in Breznik municipality, Pernik region.
In Bulgaria there are two other settlements with the same name - in Gabrovo municipality, Gabrovo region and in Elena municipality, Veliko Tarnovo region.
It is 12 km south of the town of Breznik, 16 km northwest of Pernik and 7 km east of Noevtsi. The capital Sofia is 46 km east.
Bus transportation connects it to the other settlements.
It is located in mountain area and its altitude is 700 m. The climate is temperate with clearly expressed temperature inversions in the valleys.
The permanent population is 210 people.
In the village are functioning town hall, shop and community center with library. In 2010 has started a renovation of the school. In the town of Breznik there are hospital, dentists and pharmacies and in the village of Noevtsi works the nearest GP. Schools and kindergartens are situated in the village of Noevtsi and in the municipality.
Tourism and landmarks
Bardoto area is famous for its "zhelyazna" mineral water which springs from the south part of the hill in Leskov dol area. The mineral spring attracts healthy and sick people from the ancient past for its healing characteristics which are due to the rich mineral chemical compounds and valuable physico-chemical and and physiological characteristics.
Near the Slakovtsi dam there is complex for relaxation and fishing that offers excellent conditions for rest and fishing. It is located just 5 km of the village of Velkovtsi and is with modern bungalows situated in a beautiful cherry tree garden.
In proximity is located Yardzhilovtsi dam which is suitable for family excursions - there is playground and restaurant furthermore the place is beautiful and the dam is stocked with trout, carp, rudd and other fishes.
