Varbovo is a village in South Bulgaria. It is situated in Smolyan municipality, Smolyan region.
In Bulgaria there are two other settlements with the same name in Churprene municipality, Vidin region and Harmanli municipality, Haskovo region.
It is about 22 km southeast of the town of Devin, 23 km northwest of Pamporovo resort, 33 km northwest of the town of Smolyan, 213 km southeast of the capital Sofia. The neighboring village of Shiroka laka is situated 6 km in the same direction.
It is situated in Srednite Rhodopi and its altitude is about 1200 m. The permanent population is about 20 people.
The climate is mountain with Medditarenian influence, It is characterized by mild winter, cool summer.
The village is with community center and store. The mobile operators have coverage, there is Internet connection and cable TV.
the nearest schools and hospitals are in the town of Devin.
Tourism and landmarks
At the beginning of the town of Devin for the village of Varbovo is situated the interesting rock figure Momata for which there is a legend.
The church "St George" in the village was constructed in 1871 and was finished the next year.
About 10 km away stronghold "Beadnos" is relatively small and more like a feudal castle than genuine fortress. The remains of it are found in the Rhodope Chernatitsa. This is a medieval Bulgarian and Byzantine fortress built before the IX century. It offers an excellent view Perelik Chernatitza valleys of the Vacha River and Shirokolushka to Devin and Batashka mountain Mursalitsa.
In the area Badenski bani /5 km/ is situated the water source Bedenski bani. The mineral water is hot with good flow, it is with low consistance of minerals and is suitablle for outer SPA treatment.
