Village of Valchan

Valchan is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Smolyan Municipality, Smolyan region.
It is located 14 km southwest from the town of Rudozem, nearly 26 km southeast from the town of Smolyan, 28 km southwest from the town of Madan, 270 km southeast from the city of Sofia. Neighbouring village Byala reka is located at 10 km.
There is regular bus transport to the town of Rudozem.
The altitude is 1055 meters. The climate is temperate-continental. Characterized by mild and long winter, and summers are cool.
The permanent population is about 60 people.
There is a town hall, a general store and cafe. The village has internet, cable TV and mobile phone coverage. In the village of Byala reka you will find a community center, nursery and medical office. Nearest hospital and school are located in the town of Smolyan.
Tourism and landmarks
In the town of Rudozem interesting are the following places:
Medieval fortress "Koznik" - situated on a cliff above the town of Rudozem. It can be reached by Ecotrail "Kechi Kaya" - "Koznik". The castle is part of the whole fortification system, which in the past has served to defend the Rhodopes.
Ancient Temple under the Mount "Tsigansko gradishte". This historical landmark is reached by Ecopath "Tsigansko gradishte" - "Sadilishteto".
Mosque and "The Golden Quran" in the village of Chepinci (21 km). It is the emblem of the village and is the only one in the country with two minarets each 35 m. There is a rich library with over 800 publications and books in Arabic and Persian philosophy, astronomy, Islamic law and rhetoric.
