Village of Topolovets

Topolovets is a village in northwestern Bulgaria. It is located in the municipality of Kula, Vidin region.

There is one more village with the same name in Ruzhentsi municipality, Vidin region.

It is located about 17 km northeast of the town of Kula, 23 km west from the town of Vidin and 214 kilometers northwest of Sofia city.

The altitude reaches 299 meters. The climate is characterized by relatively cold winters and hot summers with little rainfall.

Topolovets population numbers about 350 people.

There aren't educational institutions and medical services in the village. The nearest kindergarten and secondary school are located in the town of Kula. However there are general and specialized medical care.

Landmarks:

Topolovets river passes through the village, 7 km away is Kula dam. They are suitable for recreation and fishing.

Three km away from the village is Vurkan cave. Its lenght is 807 m.

There is a small, beautiful waterfall called Petrov Tserak in the village.

In the region you can also visit:

Rakovishki monastery "Holy Trinity", which is located 39 km southwest. Founded in X-XI century, and after the fall of Bulgaria under Ottoman rule declined. It was restored in the XVII century by St. Pimen Sofiyski. In the late XVIII century it was destroyed. Currently it is restored and operating.

Ancient fortress Castra Martis, whose remains are located in the town of Kula. It was likely built by the Emperor Diocletian between III and IV century. It defended the way from Bononia to Singidunum through Vrashka chuka that is one of the western passes of the Balkan Mountains.
