Village of Tikale

Tikale is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Smolyan Municipality, Smolyan region.
 
Situated 16 km northeast from the town of Smolyan, 24 km northwest from the town of Madan, 32 km southeast from the ski-resort Pamporovo in the same direction at 253 km from the city of Sofia.
Bus line connects it with neighboring towns.
 
Located in a mountainous area at ​1130 m altitude. The climate is mountainous, with a strong influence of the Mediterranean. Winter is mild and snowy, summer is cool and moist, and the autumn - long and warm.

The permanent population is about 140 inhabitants.

The village has a town hall, community center, cafe and shop. There is a range of mobile operators, cable TV and Internet. Nearest hospital, kindergarten and school are located in the town of Smolyan.


LANDMARKS

In the past, the village name was Trikale because of its location between three Mounts called fortresses, namely "Momchilova fortress" - south, "Popovitsa" - northwest and "Black Peak" - northeast. There are old Roman bridge Roman road that connects the three Mounts.
 
3 km south from the village is the landmark "Momchilova fortress". An Eco path was built, offering recreation areas with water sources.

Area "Nagrobnyata" / 4 km northeast /. This is an ancient Thracian cemetery whose longevity can not yet be dated.
 
Area "Chorkvishte" / 2 km northwest /. Represents an old church, built and robbed during the Ottoman Empire. There you can admire an exceptional panoramic view.

3 km northeast are located "Golyamo i Malko selishte" - In these two historic areas are preserved traces of cemeteries - places and fallen stones. It is assumed that they are there actually before Tikale has been inhabited.
 
In the town of Smolyan guests of the village can visit: Smolyan History Museum - the oldest and largest in the Rhodope Mountains, Planetarium Smolyan, Rhodope Drama Theatre, church "St. Vissarion of Smolen", Monument of Orpheus and Eurydice, Observatory Rozhen.
