Struma is a village in South-western Bulgaria. It is part of Sandanski Municipality, Blagoevgrad region.
It stands about 6 km west from town of Sandanski, 63 km south from town of Blagoevgrad, 145 km in the same direction from city of Sofia, 25 km north-west from the Bulgarian-Greek border at village of Kulata and 17 km north-east from town of Petrich.
Its population is approximately 570 people.
The village spreads out the valley of Struma River, in the most south-eastern low slopes of Maleshevska Mountain. It is 110 m above the sea level. Lebnitsa River passes in southern direction of the village.
The climate is transitional-Mediterranean and characterizes with hot, long summer and mild winter.
The area is favourable for growing perennial plants and early vegetables.
The village is well-developed. It comprises a town-hall, a community centre with a singing group and a library, a church, a football stadium and commercial areas. In close proximity to the main international road E-79 (Sofia-Kulata-Athens).
Medical and educational centres are available in the municipal centre of Sandanski - 6 km away.
Interesting places to visit are:
Sandanski's Park - excellent place for recreation and relaxation. It comprises a stadium, an open-air theatre, an open-air swimming pool, an artificial lake with water bikes, boats, etc. More than 200 Mediterranean plant species live on territory of 344 decares.
Rupite Land (12 km) - the place is famous with its hot thermal springs. The popular Bulgarian prophecy Vanga used to live there.
Town of Melnik (22 km) - this is the smallest town in the country. It is declared a culture reserve. The town is popular with its sand pyramids and first-classed wine.
