Stara reka is a village in southeastern Bulgaria. It is located in Sliven Municipality, Sliven region.
There is another village with the same name in Bulgaria, in Yambol region.
It is 35 km southwest away from the town of Kotel, about 47 km north from the city of Sliven, nearly 70 km southeast from the city of Veliko Tarnovo and 294 km southeast from the capital city- Sofia.
Stara reka village is located on the main road connecting Veliko Tarnovo and Sliven. Regular bus service connects it to the district town.
Altitude is 400 m. The permanent population is about 500 people.
The climate is characterized by cool summers, while winters are short and mild, without much snow, and autumn is longer than spring.
The village has a town hall, post office, community center, library, school, kindergarten. There is coverage of all mobile operators. For the health of the inhabitants there is one general practitioner that takes care. The nearest hospital is located in the town of Sliven.
Village of Stara reka is situated on the eponymous river and this combined with beautiful nature allows guests to practice fishing, rural and eco-tourism.
In the town of Kotel, which is an architectural and historical reserve, several museums and historical landmarks can be visited.
