Smolnitza is a village in Dobrich region. It is located in the North-eastern part of Bulgaria some 10 km away from the town of Dobrich, 55 km from the city of Varna and 38 km from the sea-coast.

general information

The population numbers to 450 people. The altitude is 241 m. The climate is temperate-continental - the summer is hot and sunny, the winter is cold with plenty of snowfalls.
The former name of the village used to be Chamurlii, which means "muddy" in Turkish. It was named like this due to the fertile soil in the area which gets really muddy and sticky when it rains. The modern name of the village has the same meaning.

infrastructure

The infrastructure of the village is very well organized. There is regular transportation to the town of Dobrich and the nearby settlements, cable TV and Internet. The roads are in a very good condition. In the village there is a school, a kindergarten, a community center with a library, a post office, a mayor's office, a doctor's office and several shops. The village has its own water source. In 1990 an organization has been established to help and take care of the elderly in the village and seven other settlements in the area. The locals have taken the initiative and took part into the construction of two speed limit installations near the school and a wheelchair ramp.

advantages

Near the village there is a dam-lake which attracts many fishing lovers from near and far. About 10 English and Danish families have purchased properties in the village and live there during the summer.
The main advantage of the village is its proximity to the regional town of Dobrich, as there are available all kinds of conveniences such as - shopping centers, local authorities, bars, cafes and restaurants etc.
