Shiroki Dol is a village in Western Bulgaria. It is located in Samokov municipality, Sofia district

It is about 8 km northwest of the town of Samokov, 56 km southeast of Sofia, 17 km northwest of the resortBorovets

The population numbers about 940 people. 

Situated in the picturesque valley of the River Palakaria, between the mountains Rila, Verila, Vitosha and Plana, at an altitude of about 870 m.
The climate is temperate. Typically there are cool summers and long winters. The average January temperature for the area is about -2,6 º C and in July - about 18,5 º C. The air is very clean, nature preserve.
The area is very rich in water.
In Belchinski Baths there are mineral springs which temperature is 41 º C with proven curative and preventive effects.  
Iskar river flows near the village.
Alino dam is located near, but only about 30 km to the northeast is the Iskar dam.


The village is electrified. There mayoralty, kindergarten, community center, store, post office, church. 
Closest schools and health facilities are in the municipal center - town of Samokov.
There are direct transport links to Sofia, Samokov etc.

  

Tourism

The area of the village became the basis for the development of modern cultural-historical, spa and eco-tourism at European level. Imminent is realization of projects for rehabilitation and building cultural differentiation of eco-development of the modern spa resorts and spas, organizing local festivals and revival of local traditions and more.

 

Undoubtedly the greatest wealth is mineral healing water. In its center there is a swimming pool. Another attraction is the entertainment complex Belchin Park, located at the beginning of the village. It has a large swimming pool, children's pool, playground, volleyball and basketball courts, snack bar.

Cultural - historical places with the highest value is the medieval church St. Petka in Belchin. Temple has an extremely valuable iconographic decoration and carving. Restored and consecrated in 2007 along with the restoration, near the temple is built and ethnographic complex - a subsidiary of City Historical Museum - Samokov.
