Village of Sarnino

Surnino is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Smolyan Municipality, Smolyan region.
In Bulgaria there is another village with the same name in General Toshevo Municipality, Dobrich region.
It is located 28 km south from the town of Smolyan, 44 km in the same direction from the resort Pamporovo and 50 km from the town of Chepelare, 274 km southeast from Sofia. It is situated approximately two kilometres from the border with Greece.
Situated in a mountainous area at 1163 m above sea level. The mountain climate is marked by influence of the Mediterranean. Winters are mild and snowy, wet and cool summer, and autumn is long and warm.
The permanent population is about 10 people.
In the neighbouring village of Sivino / 3 km west / you can find town hall, community center, a mosque and a general store. The nearest kindergarten and school are located in the village of Smilyan / 10 north /, there is also a health service. Hospital can be found in Madan.
TOURISM
Undoubtedly the biggest attraction in the area is the cave "Uhlovitsa" / 16 km /. It is one of the oldest in the region and the richest caves in Bulgaria. Challenge are 180 iron steps to the entrance and 288 feet inside. The cave has a hall pit and ends with four beautiful lakes that in early spring are filled with water. As the largest lake stone spurts of brilliant waterfall.
Arda River and its tributaries along Smilyan are preferred by many fishermen. A major attraction is the restaurant in the village, in the garden can be seen deer, rabbits, grouse and huge wild pigs.
In the vicinity of Chokmanovo/16 km northeast / on the road to Smolyan, is located the monastery "St. Athanasius".
In Smolyan village guests can visit: Museum of History Smolyan, Smolyan Planetarium, Rhodope Drama Theatre, "St. Vissarion", Monument of Orpheus and Eurydice, Rozhen Observatory.
