Village of Sandrovo

Sandrovo is a village in the Central part of Northern Bulgaria. It is situated in Ruse Municipality, Ruse Region.

Sandrovo spreads out the banks of Danube River. It is 16 km east from the centre of Ruse, 3 km in the same direction from town of Marten, 8 km west from town of Slivo pole, 201 km north-west from town of Varna and 320 km north-east from the capital Sofia.

The settlement is about kilometre away from the main road Ruse-Silistra. Regular bus transportation - Ruse-Marten-Sandrovo.

The village is set at the Danube riverside, in the eastern Danube plain, on 21 m above the sea level. The relief is plain and the climate - humid continental. Summer is hot and dry, with average July temperature of about 25 C. Winter is cold with average January temperature of about -2 C.

The population is about 1330 people. Electricity, water and communication equipment are provided. There is a town-hall, a post office, a community centre with a library, a doctor, a dentist and commercial areas. The nearest kindergarten and school are in the neighbouring town of Marten (3 km).

In the centre of the village is the monument in honour of the local soldiers who had died in the wars. The local church 'St Archangel Michael' was built in 1935.

The main means of living is agriculture (grain, perennial trees and livestock in the private households). Private companies work in the trade sphere as well.

Tourism

There is a fishing settlement along the Danube riverside. The fishermen may catch sheat-fish, carp, zander, perch, northern pike, etc.

Across the village is 'Aleko' Island. Part of the island is protected area. You can see plants that are included in the Bulgarian Red Book, such as spring snowflake, Еuphorbia Lucida, etc. Here could be also seen some of the biggest heron colonies, great and pygmy cormorant, Eurasian spoonbill, Dalmatian pelican, red-breasted goose, etc.

About 8 km at village of Nikolovo is located Lipnik forest park. It is a preferred place for recreation during weekends. The park is convenient for pedestrian and bicycle tourism, water-wheeling and fishing. There is a small zoo park with bears, goats and birds.
