Village of Rustan

Rustan is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Madan Municipality, Smolyan region.

It is 11 km northwest from the town of Madan, about 34 km southeast from the town of Smolyan and in the same direction, respectively 45 km from Pamporovo resort and 272 km from the capital Sofia.

Situated 632 meters above sea level. The climate is continental. Winters are mild and long, cool summer.

The permanent population is about 20 people.

In the village of Srednogortsi / 6 km northeast / you will find town hall, community center, kindergarten, elementary school, church "St. Ivan Rilski". There you can also receive medical care from a doctor and a dentist.
The nearest hospital is located in the town of Madan.

 

Tourism and landmarks

In the town of Madan can see the following landmarks:

- Cave - Museum "Sharenka". This is the first in Bulgaria Cave Museum.
- Area Gabata - a small rock cave in which they found pottery pieces from different eras. Following the path on the cliff to reach the Thracian mines, where were found primitive tools for the extraction of ore and clay lamps.
- Nearby is the rock 'Rimpapa", 50 meters high, resembling a man with a cloak. Behind it there are remains of an ancient village, where they found traces of clay pipe.
- Area Kichikaya old bulgarian fortress later conquered by the Romans. There are old stone buildings and walls of the fortress wall. Fully preserved, and the well is carved nine meters down the cliff.

In Smolyan village guests can visit: Smolyan History Museum - the oldest and largest in the Rhodope Mountains, Smolyan Planetarium, Rhodope Drama Theatre, "St. Vissarion", Monument of Orpheus and Eurydice, Rozhen Observatory.
