Village of Reka

Reka is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Smolyan Municipality, Smolyan region.
It is about 16 kilometers northeast from the town of Smolyan, about 38 kilometers southeast from the town of Chepelare and 33 km in the same direction from the resort Pamporovo, about 20 kilometers northwest from the town of Madan and 253 km southeast from the city of Sofia.
Bus service connects it with neighboring towns.
Located in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains, 1057 meters above sea level. The mountain climate is marked by influence of the Mediterranean. Winter is mild and snowy, summer is cool and wet, and the autumn - long and warm.
The permanent population is about 220 inhabitants.
The village has a town hall, café and shop. There is a range of mobile operators, cable TV and Internet. The nearest hospital, kindergarten and school are located in the town of Smolyan.
LANDMARKS
One of the biggest landmarks is "Momchilova fortress" located in the area "Gradishteto" / 5 km /. Legend connects the castle with the semi-mythical figure Momchil who defended the invasion of the Rhodopes Ottoman Turks in the late 14th century. Disclosure is part of the city wall, many objects were found not only in the Middle Ages, but from much earlier times.
In Smolyan village guests can visit: Smolyan History Museum - the oldest and largest in the Rhodope Mountains, Smolyan Planetarium; Rhodope Drama Theatre, "St. Vissarion ", Monument of Orpheus and Eurydice; Rozhen Observatory.
