Rani lug is a village in West Bulgaria. It is situated in Tran municipality, Pernik region.

It is 15 km west from the town of Tran and 61 km northwest of the town of Pernik. The border with Serbia is just 5 km away in proximity to the village of Slishovtsi. The capital Sofia is 86 km east.

It is located in mountain region at the foot of Rudini mountain that is part of the Rui mountain range. Its altitude is about 824 m. The climate is with clearly expressed four seasons that have the following characteristics warm but not hot summer while the winter is severe. The spring is cool and with lots of precipitation and ends in the end of March the beginning of April and the fall is also warm.

The permanent population is about 28 people. There are electricity and water systems. Bus transportation connects it to the municipality. The mobile operators have partial coverage.

The nearest GPs, dentists, hospital, kindergarten and school work in the town of Tran.

In the village of Rani lug there is late medieval church "St Nikolay" that dates back to the XVII-th c. It is partially renovated and its architecture was changed in the 1980's. The walls of the temple are made of crushed stone with mortar bond. Interesting is the semi round additional building to it that is typical only for the churches in the areas Tran and Breznik constructed in the Renaissance and is made of made of wood.

Local landmarks in the area are the picturesque Erma River GorgeRui peakthe rock church "St Petka"the Tran monastery and the Vrabcha monastery.
