Popovitsa

Popovotsa is a village in Southern Bulgaria, part of Municipality Sadovo, District of Plovdiv.

It stands about 27 km east of the town of Plovdiv, about 10 km east from the town of Sadovo and 17 km north-west of the town of Parvomay.

The village population is about 1300 residents.

The relief is flat and hilly, with average altitude of 190 m.
The climate in the region is continental, characterized with mild winters and warm and dry summers.

The village is settled with excellent infrastructure, including full electrification, water supply system, partial sewerage system, telephone lines, internet and cable TV.

The European route E 80 passes through Popovitsa.  , linking the settlement to the towns of Sadovo,Plovdiv, etc. There is a railway station as well.

The Town house, primary school, kindergarten, community center and church are at the disposal of the residents of the village.

There is a health service and a network of shops, restaurants and cafés.

The disposition of Popovitsa helps development of restaurant business and auto repair shops. There also are large vineyards.

 

Attractions

About 2 km away from the village is the Maritsa River, an area suitable for fishing, walks and relaxation.

Close to the village of Popovitsa is the protected area Martvitsata, where white lilies can be seen. Ayazmoto is above the village, where there is a monastery.

Asen’s Fortress is located about 20 km away. It is the symbol of the town ofAsenovgrad, and an amazingmonumentofOld Bulgarianculture. Parts of its walls and the St. Mary Petrichka church have been preserved.

Bachkovo Monastery is about 20 m away and is the second largest monastery in Bulgaria. It is one of the 100 most preferred cultural and tourist destinations in the country, because of its historical value.
