Popintsi is in Panagyurishte Municipality, Pazardzhik Region.

Location

The village of Popintsi is situated on both watersides of the Luda Yana River. It is 27 km from the town of Pazardzhik and 16 km from the historical town – Panagyurishte. The capital city is 107 km away and the distance to the town of Plovdiv is 60 km.

There are dams with a common area of 11000 sq.m.
The population of Popintsi is about 2500 inhabitants.

History and culture

The history of the village is back from Before Christ from the time of the Thracians. Evidences are the many archaeological sites in the Popinsko kale, Obrochishte, Sveti Nikola, Sveta Petka, Gospodova cherkva, Borova mogila, Poleto and Chonina chukara.

Over 25 tombs, coins, tools, pottery and more have been found.

Cultural traditions of the village also were preserved throughout the centuries, passed down from generation to generation. Survakarstvoto, Dzhumaya of the first Sunday before Lent, lazarouvane, St. George's - all these customs and traditions are alive today. 

Every three years a festival is held with masquerade games with participants from across the country.

 

INFRASTRUCTURE, TOURISM AND ECONOMY 

The village of Popintsi has good infrastructure. There is a primary school and a kindergarten. There is a medical center with two general practitioners. 

Industry is represented by the optical and clothing companies. 
  
The village is surrounded by a beautiful nature that has remained unaffected by the people. This is a good precondition for development of rural and eco-tourism in the future. 
  


TRANSPORT


The village is situated only 5 km from the main road to Turkey (E-80).
