Village of Polyana

Polyana is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Rudozem Municipality, Smolyan region.
 
In Bulgaria there are two more villages with the same name in Sitovo Municipality, Silistra region and Straldzha Municipality, Yambol region.
 
It is nearly 42 km southeast from the town of Smolyan, about 16 km southwest from the town of Rudozem, 30 km in the same direction from the town of Madan and 284 km southeast from the city of Sofia. Neighbouring village of Elhovets is located 8 km north-east.
The village has regular bus service linking it with the town of Smolyan and Rudozem.
 
Located 952 meters above sea level. The climate is continental. Characterized by soft and long winter and cool summer.
 
The permanent population is around 100 people.
 
Here there is a town hall and shop. Nearest primary school, kindergarten, health service are located within the territory of Elhovetz village. Hospital can be found in the town of Rudozem.
 
 
Surroundings and sights

In the town of Rudozem you can visit the medieval fortress "Koznik" - This interesting fortress is situated on a cliff above the town. It can be reached by Eco path "Kechi Kaya" - "Koznik". The castle is part of the whole system of fortresses. There were found many pieces of pottery from different periods and an ancient Roman temple.

In the town of Madan you can see:

Cave Museum "Sharenka". This is the first cave museum in Bulgaria.
The area "Gabata" - rock with a small cave in which were found pieces of pottery from different periods. Following the path of rock massif reaches the Thracian mines.
Nearby is the rock "Rimpapa" - 50 meters high, resembling a man with a cape. Behind it are the remains of an ancient settlement.
The area "Kichikaya" is Proto-Bulgarian fortress, later conquered by the Romans. There are old stone walls of buildings and fortress walls.  The well dug nine meters down the cliff is completely preserved.
