Village of Peshtera

Peshtera is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Smolyan Municipality, Smolyan region.
In Bulgaria there is a town and another village with the same name, town of Peshtera, Pazardzhik region and village Peshtera, Zemen Municipality, Pernik region.
It is 9 km south from the town of Smolyan, 25 km in the same direction from Pamporovo resort and 254 km southeast from Sofia.
It lies on the southern slopes of the Kaynadinski hill at 1063 meters altitude. The climate is temperate-continental, with a strong Mediterranean influence, with four well-defined seasons. The winter is mild, but snowy, summer - cool and autumn - long and warm.
The permanent population is about 10 people.
In the village Chokmanovo / 6 km southwest / there is a town hall, community center and shop. In Smilyan / 13 km southeast / you will find primary school and kindergarten. The nearest hospital is in the town of Smolyan.
TOURISM AND LANDMARKS
In the vicinity of Chokmanovo on the road to Smolyan, is located the monastery "St. Athanasius".
Undoubtedly the biggest attraction in the area is the cave "Uhlovitsa", which is located 14 km. It is one of the oldest in the region and the richest caves in Bulgaria. Challenge are 180 iron steps to the entrance and 288 feet inside. The cave has a hall pit and ends with four beautiful lakes that in early spring are filled with water. As the largest lake stone spurts of brilliant waterfall.
In Smolyan village guests can visit: Museum of History Smolyan, Smolyan Planetarium, Rhodope Drama Theatre, "St. Vissarion", Monument of Orpheus and Eurydice, Rozhen Observatory.
For winter sports enthusiasts advantage is the close proximity of the ski slopes in the resort Pamporovo and Chepelare / 35 km southeast /.
