Paunovo is a village in West Bulgaria. It is situated in Ihtiman municipality, Sofia region.
It is situated in mountain area at the foot of Ihtimanska Sredna gora mountain and its altitude is about 792 m. The climate in the area is temperate and is characterized by hot summer and considerably cold winter.
The permanent population is about 105 people.
Paunovo is well maintained village. The main streets are asphalted and with lighting, there also are electricity and water systems. Bus transportation connects it to the other settlements. Near the village is constructed the first solar station in the municipality.
Here are functioning town hall, pub and store. Medical assistance you get at the neighboring village of Vakarel where also work dentist and GP. On the territory of the municipality the town of Ihtiman are situated the nearest hospital, kindergarten and school.
The Orthodox church "St Velikomachenik George" was found in 1884. The local people preserved an old water ritual for health and offer meat of "sacrificed" animal to the people gathered in the churchyard.
Just a few kilometers from the village is Bakardere dam which is suitable for the practicing of fishing.
