Village of Ostritsa

Ostritsa is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Chepelare Municipality, Smolyan region.

In Bulgaria there is another village with the same name in  Dve mogili Municipality,  Rousse region.

It is about 8 km northeast from the town of Chepelare, in the same direction at 20 km from the ski resort Pamporovo and 35 km from the town of Smolyan, 215 km southeast from the city of Sofia.
The village has a regular bus service to the towns of Smolyan and Chepelare.

It is situated at 1619 meters altitude. The climate is temperate-continental with Mediterranean influence, characterized by heavy snowfalls in winter and mostly hot summer days.

The permanent population is about 50 people.

The village has a town hall, restaurant and shop. Nearest kindergarten, schools and hospital are located in the town of Chepelare.

 

Surroundings and sights

In the neighboring village Bogutevo / 4 km southwest / you can visit the chapel "St. George".

In Chepelare operates Europe's only Museum of Speleology, the beauties of caves and cave drawings from the dawn of human history.

Just 20 km away is located Pamporovo - the most popular and biggest ski resort in Bulgaria. Situated at 1650 meters above sea level at the foot of peak Snezhanka (1926 m). The resort and the ski slopes are surrounded by fir trees, which makes it very beautiful and attractive.

In Smolyan village guests can visit: Smolyan History Museum - the oldest and largest in the Rhodope Mountains, Smolyan Planetarium, Rhodope Drama Theatre, "St. Vissarion", Monument of Orpheus and Eurydice, Rozhen Observatory.
