Village of Osikovo

Osikovo is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Devin Municipality, Smolyan region.

There are two villages in Bulgaria with the same name, in Popovo Municipality, Targovishte region and in Garmen Municipality, Blagoevgrad region.

It is about 41 km northeast from the town of Devin, about 66 km northwest  from the resort Pamporovo, about 81 km north from the town of Smolyan and 192 km southeast from the city of Sofia.

Osikovo is located in Chernatishki part of the Western Rhodopes mountain at 1250 m altitude. The permanent population is about 1350 people. Main occupation is farming and production of potatoes, strawberries and raspberries.

The climate is continental and is characterized by lower summer temperatures and abundant rainfall.

The village has a town hall, primary school, community center, church and shop. There is cable TV, internet and mobile phone coverage. Nearest kindergarten and hospital are located in the town of Devin.

 
Tourism

The area is rich in water resources, plant and animal species. 8 km from the village is located dam "Vacha" which offers fans of fishing opportunities for rich pickings. Lovers of natural beauty can enjoy the spruce, fir and beech forests in the northern mountain slopes and the array of white and black pine, oak and hornbeam along the southern slopes. The forests are full of game, which creates conditions for development of sport hunting.

In the vicinity of the village there is a variety of rock formations and caves - "Petvarski dupki" ,"Chiflika", caves in the "Byala stena"area and others.

Suitable for recreation are the chalets located around the village - "Chilingira" hut, "Varhovrah" hut, "Persenk" hut, "Modur"hut, Complex "Antonivanovtsi" and others.
