Opanets is a village in North Bulgaria. It is located in Pleven municipality, Pleven region.
In Bulgaria there is another settlement with the same name in Dobrich municipality, Dobrich region.
It is 7 km northwest of the town of Pleven, 5 km southeast of the town of Dolna Mitropoliya and 160 km northeast of the capital Sofia. The village of Bukovlak is 4 km east and the village of Bivolare is 6 km north.
It is situated on the bank of Vit river and its altitude is between 100 and 199 meters. The climate is temperate and is characterized with hot and dry summer with northwest winds while the winter is cold with northeast winds. During June and February fall lots of precipitation. Hails are common phenomenon to the area. The climate conditions are perfect for the development of the farming - crops growing and the fruit trees.
The permanent population is about 1835 people. The village is divided into old and new part.
Here are town hall, medical center with GP and dentist, community center, kindergarten, primary school, stores and restaurants as well as family hotel. Orthodox church is being constructed at the moment. Specialized medical assistance you can get at the town of Pleven. Opanets is with football club.
There are constructed monuments in memory of the fallen Russian, Romanian and Finnish soldiers during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878.
The people that love nature should go on an excursion to the canyon of Chernelka river (19 km) and they can choose from the two starting points of the eco trail village of Gortalovo and village of Kartozhabene.
In the town of Pleven you can visit three of the 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria - Pleven Epopee 1877, the Regional History museum and the mausoleum-chapel "St George Pobedonosets". Other interesting places in proximity are Kaylaka park and the Wine Museum.
