Medven is a village in southeastern Bulgaria. It is located in Kotel Municipality, Sliven Region.
The village is situated in a river valley, at the southern slopes of Stara Planina mountain, 14 km southeast of Kotel, 43 km northeast from the district town of Sliven and 112 km northwest of Burgas.
The altitude is 416 meters, and its population is about 213 people. Winter is short and mild, the summer is mild.
The village has preserved its authentic Revival appearance. Many Medven houses have been declared cultural monuments. Most of them are older than 150 years. In several of them are now settled small family hotels, where in the authentic atmosphere, guests can relax and enjoy the mountain hospitality, peace and quiet. Taverns in the village offer a variety of dishes typical of local and Bulgarian cuisine.
Medven is the birthplace of Zahari Stoyanov and his native house is preserved in its original and authentic style is structured as a museum. On the village square is the monument of the writer. The village is the birth and another prominent Bulgarian writer and artist - Stoyan Bachvarov. His memorial plaque is placed on his house in the center.
Medven run along the picturesque River Medvenska. It rises 11 km from the village and is known for its fabulous waterfalls "Blue Pool" and "Jumps". In the land of Medven valley has beautiful caves - Lednitsata and Tsarevets. Nearby is also the reserve Orlitsa "as well as some particularly beautiful rock formations.
Medven is famous with hunting. Every weekend in the hunting season is organized hunting groups. In the nearby village Sadovo is hunting farm, where you can hire a professional driver.
Fishing is also an option in local Medvenska loiver or near lake Kamchia. For lovers of herb and mushroom the meadows near Medven provide ample opportunities during the summer months.
