Village of Marzyan

Marzyan is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Zlatograd Municipality, Smolyan region.
Marzyan Village is located in the central part of the Rhodope Mountains, near the border with Greece, about 21 km northwest from the town of Zlatograd, 61 km southeast from the town of Smolyan, 35 km southwest from the town of Nedelino and 300 km southeast from the capital Sofia.
The altitude is 700 meters. Climate is characterized by moderately warm summers and relatively mild winters.
The permanent population is about 10 people.
In the neighbouring village Startsevo / 10 km east / there is a town hall, community center, school, kindergarten and health service. The nearest hospital is in the town of Zlatograd.
TOURISM AND LANDMARKS
- In Startsevo there are two mosques, in 1998 was built the church "St. Athanasius".
- In the area St. Sunday in 1955 were found the remains of a medieval Christian cemetery.
- Attraction in the village of Startsevo is the ostrich farm and riding stables.
- History lovers can visit the Ethnographic Area Complex Zlatograd - outdoor museum showing how the city looked more than 100 years ago.
