Village of Malka Arda

Malka Arda is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Banite Municipality, Smolyan region.

It is 40 km northeast from the town of Smolyan, 8 km west from the village of Banite, 42 km southeast from the town of Chepelare and 244 km in the same direction from the capital city of Sofia. Neighbouring village of Petkovo is located 4 km northwest.
Bus service connects it with neighbouring towns.

It is situated in the Rhodopes on the banks of the river Malka Arda. The altitude is 858 meters climate is mountainous, with lower summer temperatures and abundant rainfall and snow cover stays relatively long.

There are about 250 people.

Malka Arda has a town hall, community center, cafes and several shops. There is mobile phone coverage, Internet and cable TV. Nearest kindergarten, school and hospital are located in the town of Smolyan.

Landmarks and tourism

At the river Malka Arda there are several bridges, some of which have become a symbol of the village. One of them is the one that is located on the pool Yurta. Pit is about 2 meters deep and has a clean, cold water.

In the neighboring village Petkovo interest are the following attractions:

  • Church "St. Yoan Predtecha" built in1836.
  • Chapels - St. Cyril and Methodius, Holy Spirit, St. Athanasius, St. Bogoroditsa, St. Peter and Paul, St. George and St. Dimitar, St. Konstantin and Elena.

 

At nearly 8 km in the village Slaveino you can see: House-museum of Prof. Dr. Konstantin Chilov,
Church "St. Iilya" - known for its golden domes and four chapels well preserved until today.

In Smolyan village guests can visit: Museum of History Smolyan, Smolyan Planetarium, Rhodope Drama Theatre, "St. Vissarion", Monument of Orpheus and Eurydice, Rozhen Observatory.
