Village of Makovo

Makovo is a village situated in North-eastern Bulgaria. It is part of Targovishte Municipality, Targovishte region.
Makovo is about 22 km north-west from town of Targovishte, 100 km north-east from town of Veliko Tarnovo, 83 km south-east from town of Ruse, 24 km south-west from town of Razgrad and 52 km west from town of Shumen.
Its population is approximately 280 people.
Makovo spreads out the eastern part of the Danube plain, at about 242 m above sea level. It characterizes with plain-hilly relief and humid continental climate. Hot, dry summers and cold winters.
The village comprises a town hall, a church, a kindergarten and shops. Schools and health services are available in the villages of Podgoritsa and Golyamo novo which are 11 km away. Electricity, water and telephone net are provided.
The main road Sofia-Varna passes nearby.
Agriculture is the main means of living in the village. People grow grain crops, vegetables and fruits. Stock-breeding is developed in the private farms.
Tourism
Targovishte district comprises a hunting-tourist region of 300 hectares where rare game could be found (doe, deer, wild-boar, fox, badger, wolf, etc). Great variety of birds could be found here as well (partridge, pheasant, quail, pigeon, turtle-dove). There are many dams in the region that are perfect for fishing.
