Makedontsi is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is part of Kardzhali Municipality, Kardzhali Region.

It is 11 km south-west of the center of Kardzhali, 12 km north-west of Momchilgrad, 39 km east of Ardino and about 251 km south-east from Sofia.

Makedontsi is situated in the outskirts of Kardzhali at an altitude of about 314 m. The relief is hilly with beautiful panoramic views. The summer is warm and hot and the winter - soft and short.

The village of Makedontsi is located only 4 km away from main road E85. The population is approximately 140 people.

The village is provided with electricity, water and communication equipment. There is regular bus transport to Kardzhali. There is a primary school with a kindergarten here, In the village of Gluhar /5 km in the east/ you will find a community center, a post office, a police department, a mosque and a GP. The nearest general hospital is in Kardzhali.

LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

Makedontsi is about 11 km away of Studen kladenets Dam and about 12 km away of Kardzhali Dam. In the summer they are preferred destination for recreation, sun-bathing and water sport practicing. There are many hotels, restaurants, villas and guest houses. Interesting are the floating pontoon-restaurants with rich fish menu.

The Regional museum of history in the town of Kardzhali;

Medieval monastery "St. Joan of Prodrom" in Veselchane quarter - a monument of culture with its high artistic and architectural value;

The cult complex Perperikon near the village of Gorna krepost;

Monastery complex "Virgin Mary's Assumption" in Gledka quarter where pieces of Christ's cross are kept;

Art Gallery "Stanka Dimitrova" with an exposition of over 2 000 works - precious collections of icons and Renaissance prints, paintings and sculpture;

Architectural complex "Old Town" consisting of old houses, the most famous of which are "Kerimov House", "House of the Architects", etc.
