Village of Lyaskovo

Lyaskovo is a village in South Bulgaria. It is located in the Devin Municipality, Smolyan region.

There are another five bulgarian villages with the same name ( in the following regions Burgas, Dobrich, Kardzhali, Stara Zagora, Plovdiv).

It is 30 km away  northeast from the town of Devin, 70 km northwest from the city of Smolyan and 186 km southeast from the capital city Sofia.

There is a bus transport to Lyaskovo from the town of Devin three times a week.

The village is situated at 1301 m altitude. The population is around 1063 inhabitants.
Lyaskovo is located in the west part of the Rhodopi mountain, in a narrow mountain gorge of the river Lyaskovska.  It is surrounded by high ridges on all sides.

The climate is characterized by lower summer temperatures and heavy rainfall, snow cover stays longer.

In Lyaskovo there is a community center "Prosveta" and primary schools.

The visitors of the village can stay at the several guest houses and they can taste the traditional Rhodopian dishes in the local taverns.

Lyaskovo dates back from the Thracian and Roman times. For this witness remains of Thracian mounds, found pottery and coins dating from the fourth century BC.

The village is very picturesque with its beautiful white houses, some of which are over 100 years and have retained the features of traditional Rhodope architecture. Old mill and the Roman bridges built over the river recall and carry the spirit of ancient history and rich past.
Some of the traditional Rhodope crafts are preserved - blacksmith, decorative carving, hand weaving of rugs, bags, construction of embroidered slippers and more. They are attractive for visitors to the village.
Authentic folklore - songs, customs, festivals and costumes impress with their creativity and originality.

Surroundings

Areas around the village are full of natural, archaeological and cultural sites.
Rock massif "Momin kamak ", " Kyura Mara" and those in the "Nastaneta", lying 3 km southwest of the village that are suitable for rock climbing and paragliding.
Two parallel caves in the area "Chital yluk "are attractive to speleotourism.
16 km from the village is Persenk peak / height of 2091 m / , with his four younger brothers Persentsi. The peak is known for its exceptional beauty and attractiveness.
Natural resources "Gluhite kamani" (Deaf Stones) is unique - early stone burial and 6 km from the village.

For lovers of archaeological tourism, village Lyaskovo can offer a visit to the area "Bodotina", where there are remains of Thracian tomb from V century BC, ceramic fragments and the "tower" where there are preserved foundations of the Christian church.
In the area "Bartse" there are remains of Thracian burial and it opens a unique panoramic view of the Rila and Pirin mountains.
The area of the village is with a preserved nature - rich flora and fauna. It is surrounded by spruce and pine forests. The lower part is dominated by deciduous forests composed of beech and oak, and large arrays of hazel bushes, from where comes the name of the village.
The forests are rich in blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, mushrooms and herbs.
The variety of animal species favors the development of hunting tourism.

Attractive with its ancient history, preserved traditions, famous Rhodope hospitality and exceptional natural resources in the village, in the last few years Lyaskovo had developed itself as a tourist village and meets the constantly increasing number of tourists and guests.
