Village of Levunovo

Levunovo is a village in South-western Bulgaria. It is part of Sandanski Municipality, Blagoevgrad region.

Location

The village is 12 km south from town of Sandanski, 14 km away from town of Melnik, 17 km away from town of Petrich and 100 km away from Bansko ski resort.

Description

Conservatory agriculture is well-developed in Levunovo and the neighbouring villages. There are many cultivable lands and green areas in the region as well.

The centre of the village comprises a town-hall and a community centre with a library and a post office in it. The pupils go to school in village of Damyanitsa. The kindergarten is at the beginning of the village.

The Monument 'The Big Fountain' stands in the centre of Levunovo. It is in memory of the soldiers who died in the First World War.

There are three orthodox temples in the settlement:

- 'St George the Victorious' church;
- 'St Trinity' chapel - at the fair of the village the people give donations and organize free-style wrestling;
- 'St Panteleimon' chapel - it is set in the yard of the mayor's house. According to the legend the great-grandmother of the mayor was cured in this chapel. His great-grandfather built the chapel in acknowledgement of the saint.

There are several mineral springs in the settlement. Their temperature is usually higher than the temperatures of the other mineral springs in Bulgaria.

One motel, a hotel complex in process of construction, several industrial workshops, shops and public houses are available in the region.

Transportation

Buses regularly go to town of Sandanski. The international road E-79 (Sofia-Kulata) passes near Levunovo.
