Laskar is a village in North Bulgaria. It is situated in Pleven municipality, Pleven region.
It is located in semi mountain area and its altitude is 277 m. The climate is temperate and is characterized with hot and dry summer while the winter is cold. During June and February fall lots of precipitation. Hails are common phenomenon to the area.
Regular bus transportation connects it to the town of Pleven and the neighboring settlements. There are constructed water, electricity and phone systems. All mobile operators have coverage.
The permanent population is about 116 people. They are occupied mainly in farming, stock breeding and logging.
Here are functioning mayor's vice royalty, community center, store and pub. The nearest kindergarten is in the village of Brestovets. The nearest GP works in the village of Nikolaevo. In the town of Pleven you will find schools and specialized medical assistance.
According to the legends the name of the village if derived from the name of the Byzantium Greek noble Laskaris that fought with Byzantium to obtain his own kingdom.
The area offers good conditions for hunting and fishing for there is prey in the woods and Kaylaka dam is stocked. There also are organized regattas.
Through the neighboring village of Gortalovo passes the small river Chernelka and from here starts the canyon of the river that is protected natural phenomenon. There is constructed eco path and the tourists can visit the many caves in the area - Kapchuka cave, remains from ancient fortress in Gradishte area, Roman roads, interesting rock formations.
In the town of Pleven you can visit three of the 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria - Pleven Epopee 1877, the Regional History museum and the mausoleum-chapel "St George Pobedonosets". Other interesting places in proximity are Kaylaka park and the Wine Museum.
