Kreta is a village in North Bulgaria. It is located in Gulyantsi municipality, Pleven region.
In Bulgaria there is one other settlement with the same name in Mezdra municipality, Vratsa region.
The village is situated on the very bank of Vit river and its altitude is 101 m. The climate is temperate with cold winter and hot summer while there is little precipitation, mostly in May and June.
The permanent population is about 309 people.
Railway and bus transportation connect it to the other settlements. The village is divided into three neighborhoods. The main streets are asphalted and there is lighting, there are constructed water and electricity systems. All mobile operators have coverage.
In the village of Kreta are functioning mayor's vice royalty, a couple of stores, pub and coffee shops. The nearest school, kindergarten and hospital you will find on the territory of the town of Gulyantsi where you can get specialized medical assistance.
Vit river offers and also the place is great for picnic, sun bathing and walks.
The local cultural and archaeological heritage in the area is presented mainly by the archaeological reserve "Oescus" near Gigen village (21 km) which is declared cultural monument with national significance. It consists of remains from Roman and Byzantium cities.
In the town of Pleven you can visit three of the 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria - Pleven Epopee 1877, the Regional History museum and the mausoleum-chapel "St George Pobedonosets". Other interesting places in proximity are Kaylaka park and the Wine Museum.
