LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

An ancient Thracian complex of the late Bronze and early Iron Age was found in the village of Kovil. The sanctuary is situated around a wreath of white volcanic rocks (volcanic tuffs), which rises on the crest of a rocky ridge. On the ridge the rocks are carved with numerous facilities for religious use.

In the area of the neighbouring village of Dzhanka /5 кm in the north/ can be visited one of the waterfalls of the River Dushan dere declared a natural landmark - "The Waterfall" - the highest waterfall in the protected region of Kardzhali. The waterfall is 25 m high.

In the center of Dzhanka a rock tomb, carved into volcanic white rock that rises above the surrounding terrain, is found. A roughly shaped entrance leads to a lower-level burial chamber with trapezoidal plan. Both parts were connected by a narrow entrance with a threshold but today there are only traces left of it. The camera narrows up and most probably had an opening at the top.
