Village of Kalina

Kalina is a village in northwestern Bulgaria. It is located in the Municipality Bregovo, District Vidin.

The village is located 18 kilometers southeast of the municipal center Bregovo, 12 km northwest from the town of Vidin and 207 km in the same direction from city of Sofia.

Kalina is in the temperate-continental climate region with relatively cold winters and hot summers. The average altitude is 100 m. The population numbers about 35 people.

The international road Vidin-Bregovo goes near the village.

Until 1934 the name of the village was Chorokalina.

There is one municipal building in the village, the streets are steep and are not in very good condition. The residents of Кalina can visit the schools and the medical facilities situated in Bregovo and the neighboring villages.

Landmarks and tourism:

Kalina village is located in a beautiful area. There is a beautiful forest to the east of it. Between it and the village lies the bed of a dried river. There is a small lake nearby.

There is a monument to the fallen in the wars.

In Vidin attractive for tourists are: the Baba Vida fortress, dating from the X century, related to the defense of the city during the Middle Ages, the Kale fortress, the Cruciform barracks with an ethnographic exhibition, the Turkish Konak "Koluka", the Mosque and the library of Osman Pazvantaglu, the Sveti Dimitar cathedral, the Mausoleum of the first Bulgarian Exarch Antim I and others.
