Village of Gorovo

Gorovo is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Smolyan Municipality, Smolyan region.

In Bulgaria there is another village with the same name in Singulare  Municipality, Burgas region.

It is located 27 km south from the town of Smolyan, 24 km southwest from the town of Rudozem, 47 km south from the ski-resort of Pamporovo and 270 km southeast from the city of Sofia.  Neighboring village of Smilyan located 10 km to the north.

The altitude is 1300 meters. Climate is temperate-continental. It is characterized by soft and long winter and cool summer.

The permanent population is about 40 people. Agriculture and animal breeding are the main occupations. Mainly here are grown potatoes.

There is a town hall and shop. Nearest primary school, nursery, health services are within the village of Smilyan. Hospital can be found in the town of Rudozem.

 

TOURISM

In the town of  Rudozem you can visit the medieval fortress "Koznik" - This interesting fort is situated on a cliff above the town. It can be reached by Eco path "Kechi Kaya" - "Koznik." The castle is part of the whole system of fortresses. There were found many pieces of pottery from different eras and ancient Roman temple.

Arda River and its tributaries along the village of Smilyan / 10 km / are a preferred destination for many fishermen.

15 km west of the village on the road to the village of Mogilitsa is situated the beautiful Cave "Uhlovitsa".

21 km northwest from the village of Mogilitsa you can see Agushevi konatsi. In 1834 in the village was built a large feudal castle - the largest in the Balkans at the time. It is designed and implemented as a solid winter abode of Agus Agha and his sons. Construction of Agushevi Konak lasted 20 years.
