Gorno Spanchevo is a village in South-western Bulgaria. It is part of Sandanski Municipality, Blagoevgrad region.

It is 101 km south-west from town of Blagoevgrad, 41 km in the same direction from town of Sandanski, 230 km south from city of Sofia, 35 km south-west from town of Gotse Delchev and 21 km north-east from the Bulgarian-Greek border at village of Kulata.

Its population is approximately 90 people.

Gorno Spanchevo spreads out the foot of Pirin Mountain, at the valley of Pirinska Bistritsa River. It is on 477 m above the sea level.

The region is with transitional-Mediterranean climate characterizing with early spring, hot summer, short autumn and mild winter.

The natural and climate conditions are favourable for stock-breeding and growing perennial plants (mainly vineyards).

The main road Katuntsi-Gotse Delchev passes through here (Popovi livadi pass).

The settlement is well-developed and provided with electricity, water, telephone net and commercial areas. Hydroelectricity Spanchevo is located at Pirinska Bistritsa River.

Medical services and educational centres are available in the neighbouring village of Katuntsi (9 km away).

Tourism

The village is with excellent conditions for ecological and rural tourism. Possible are mountain routes to Vihren mountain top and Popovi livadi land.

The local church of St Petka (1876) is a monument of culture.

Remains of Gornospancheva Fortress are located in the valley of Pirinska Bistritsa River. The fortress most probably used to protect the road through Popovi livadi. The road connects the valleys of Struma and Mesta Rivers.

The guests may visit the smallest town in Bulgaria - Melnik (27 km) famous with its Melnishki pyramids and first-classed wines.

Just 83 km away is the popular ski resort of Bansko - it comprises the most modern ski centre in the country.

The lovers of mineral baths may visit the most famous SPA resorts in Bulgaria - town of Sandanski (41 km) and town of Velingrad (128 km).
