Gorna Vasilitsa is a village in West Bulgaria. It is located in Kostenets municipality, Sofia region.
It is located in mountain area between Sredna gora and Rila mountains about 6 km north of the town of Kostenets, 3 km north of Momin prohod resort and 65 km southeast of Sofia. There is regular bus transportation to the village several times a day from the town of Kostenets.
Its altitude is 700 m.
The climate is the area is temperate. It is characterized by warm to hot weather in the summer. The winter is not cold.
The snow coverage stays for about 60 days during the year.
Gorna Vasilitsa consists of three neighborhoods: Nova, Glezhdova and Perdova which are 1-2 km away from one another and are separated by deep valleys. The permanent population is about 273 people.
Annually during the winter there is festival of the mummers in the village on the Sirni Zagovezni holiday. This festival has become traditional for the whole region.
Gorna Vasilitsa is with community center and authentic folklore group. The church "St Yoan Predtecha" is built in the 1855 and is one of the oldest churches in the municipality.
The nearest medical centers and schools are situated in the town of Kostenets.
The proximity to the popular SPA resort Momin prohod is a great advantage to the village. Just 33 km away is Borovets resort where the people who like skiing can practice it.
7 km away is located the Ibar golf complex.
