Golyamo Vranovo is a village in Northern Bulgaria. It is part of Slivo pole Municipality, Ruse Region.
It is 35 km east from the centre of Ruse, 12 km in the same direction from town of Slivo pole, 86 km south-west from town of Silistra, 191 km north-west from town of Varna and 338 km north-east from city of Sofia.
Regular bus transportation to town of Ruse and the neighbouring villages.
The village spreads out the eastern part of the Danube plain, on 49 m above the sea level. It is about 10 km away of Danube River. The relief is plain with forest massifs. The climate is humid continental with short autumn and spring, cold winter and dry, hot summer.
Golyamo Vranovo is a big and well-developed village with population of about 1740 people. Electricity, water and communication equipment are provided. There is a town-hall, a post office, an elementary school, a community centre with a library, health services, an orthodox church, a mosque and commercial areas. There are clubs of the hunter and the pensioner, and a football team.
The Monument of the soldiers who died in the wars (1912-1918) is standing in the centre of the village. It represents a fully accoutred soldier figure at full height.
Most of the population works in the local pig-breeding farm and the company of belt and accessories production. Vegetable production is well-developed as well.
Place of interest in the alternative tourism sphere is 'Kalimok-Brashlen' protected territory. The rich variety of animals has been preserved during the years. There are 230 bird species (58% of the bird species in Bulgaria), reptiles, amphibians, mammals, rear and protected animals registered in the Bulgarian Red Book.
Danube River is about 10 km away of the settlement. The fishermen may catch sheat-fish, carp, zander, perch, northern pike, etc.
