Golyamo kamenyane is a village in sothern Bulgaria. It is part of the municipality of Krumovgrad, Kardzhali Region.

The village is located 10 km southeast of Krumovgrad, 58 km in the same direction of the regional center Kardzhali and about 299 km southeast of the capital Sofia city. The village is only 14 away from the national border with Greece.

Golyamo kamenyane is located in a mountainous area at an altitude about 400 m. It is part of the Meditteranean climate zone which determines the mild winter and the hot summer.

The population is about 371 people.

Golyamo kamenyane has relatively good infrastructure - the roads are in good condition, it has water and electricity supply, regular bus transport connects it with the municipality center Krumovgrad.

The nearest community center, elemenary school and kindergarten are located in the village of Avren /about 11 km south of Golyamo kamenyane /. One can obtain medical assistance in the same village since there is one GP working in the village of Avren. The nearest multiprofile hospital and secondary school are located in the town of Krumovgrad.

There are reserves of chrome ore in the area of the village.

LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

The landmark Rock tomb - sanctuary near the village of Rogach is located only 8 km north-west of Golyamo kamenyane. The tomb is revered by local people as sacred. It is located on a rock on the right bank of the River Krumovitsa. There are two small deep holes on the rocks which remind of human feet. Locals call the latter "The steps of Ali" (a Muslim saint).

The White River can be seen 15 km in the south-east. The river is the first in the Eastern Rhodopes to be declared a part of the ecological network "NATURA 2000". The river forms different shapes called "The meandres of the White River" troughout its course.

The church "St. Nikolai" in the near village of Avren is also interesting as well as the chapel built on the place of the demolished church in the area of Selishteto and the annual traditional fair in Avren.
