Golyama Zhelyazna is a village in the municipality of Troyan, Lovech region.
It is situated 45 km south-west of Lovech, 35 km northwest of town of Troyan, 25 km south of Ugarchin, 4 km east of Lesidren, about 118 km northeast of Sofia. About 20 km north passes highway Sofia-Varna.
The village is situated at the foot of the Balkan Mountain, on about 500 m altitude. The river Toplya passes through the village, the dam lake Sopot is in immediate proximity.
The population numbers about 730 people.
Golyana Zhelyazna boasts 530-year history.
There are shops, cafes, church, town hall, community center with its own theater troupe, a museum and a huge library, as well as convenient transportation.The village has several villas, which offer excellent conditions for accommodation of tourists.
Golyama Zhelyazna has excellent opportunities for fishing and tourism, because of the proximity of the lake "Sopot", which is the fourth largest in the country. It has excellent facilities for camping in the region around.
At the village tourists can also visit the monument to the heroes who fell in wars for the unification of Bulgaria. Sv.Vseh Vsyatih Church, consecrated 150 years ago, preserved the history of the village. Cave "Toplya" is a landmark, which were discovered artifacts from the IV-III millennium BC.
Annually in the village is held the so called Home night - on January 2. Locals dressed in folk costumes, dancing people, and competitions.
Each year in June motocross races are organized.
