Village of Gluhar

Gluhar is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is part of Kardzhali Municipality, Kardzhali Region.

It is 7 km south of Kardzhali, 9 km north of Momchilgrad, 255 km south-west of Burgas and 253 km south-east of Sofia. Bus transportation to the regional town and the capital. There is a stop of the railway line Dimitrovgrad-Podkova.

The population is approximately 960 people.

The village spreads out in mountainous region, at the Eastern Rhodopes, at 263 m above the sea level. Varbitsa River passes through here. Hot summer and mild winter.

Village of Gluhar comprises a town-hall, a post office, a police officer, a doctor, an elementary school with kindergarten group, a community centre, a mosque, a football playground and commercial areas. The nearest hospitals are in town of Kardzhali.

The region is with well-developed tobacco growing, vegetable production and stock-breeding.

Landmarks and tourism

Near the village is located 'Karabekirova' cave, which is shaped on a rock ring above Varbitsa River. The cave was inhabited by the primitive people during the neolith.

Gluhar is situated close to both Arda River dams - Kardzhali and Studen kladenets. Kardzhali Dam is excellent for yachting, surfing and swimming. There is great variety of fish and the dam is convenient for fishing tourism. Studen kladenets Dam is used for fish-breeding and water wheeling.

Hunting is organized in the game hunting stations of 'Zhenda', 'Bolyartsi' and 'Studen kladenets'.
