Elenka is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Nedelino Municipality, Smolyan region.

It is 7 km northeast from the town of Nedelino, 67 km southeast from the town of Smolyan, in the same direction respectively 35 km from the town of Madan and 298 km from the capital Sofia.
There is regular bus transport to Nedelino.

It is situated at the foot of mount Elenka at 554 meters above sea level. Climate is continental with a strong influence of the Mediterranean. Winters are mild and snowy. Summer is cool and humid and autumn - long and warm.

The population is about 160 people. Tobacco production is the main livelihood, the village relies on the development of eco and rural tourism.

The village has a shop and a pub. There is mobile phone coverage, Internet and cable TV. The nearest hospital, kindergarten and school are located in Nedelino.

TOURISM AND LANDMARKS

In the town of Nedelino you can visit :

  • Peak "Holy Sunday" tall 865 meters with built chapel "Holy Sunday" on it.
  • Chapels "St. Apostles St. Konstantin and Elena", "St. Athanasius" and "Holy Sunday" - forming the so-called "Cross Mountain".
  • Alada Peak - the highest point in the area - 1,241 m. It is located 20 km east of Nedelino. At the foot of the tribune is located green lawn that is ideal for picnics.
  • Fortress Ustra. Located at 1015 m altitude, near the border with Nedelino, Dzhebel municipality. Entire length of the wall is 113 meters and the height of the walls preserved up to 10 meters is considered a stronghold that was built in 12-10 century BC by Thracians H., and served not only for defense but also for home of Thracian captains.

In the town of Madan the following attractions:

  • Cave-Museum "Sharenka". This is the first in Bulgaria cave museum.
  • Area  Gabata - a small rock cave, where they found pottery pieces from different eras. Following the path on the cliff to reach the Thracian mines.
  • Nearby is the rock 'Rimpapa" - 50 meters high, resembling a man with a cape.
  • Area Kichikaya - fortress later conquered by the Romans. There are old stone buildings and walls of the fortress wall.
