The village of Devesilovo

Devesilovo is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is part of the municipality of Krumovgrad, Kardzhali Region.

It is located at about 27 km south of Krumovgrad, 75 km in the south-east of the regional center Kardzhali and about 316 km in the same direction of the capital Sofia city. The neighbouring the village of Avren is located at about 6 km east of Devesilovo.

The village is located in the south part of the Eastern Rhodopes, in a muontainous, hilly area at an altitude about 460 m. It is part of the Mediterranean climate zone which determines the relatively mild winter and the hot, long summer.

Here live about 300 people.

The village comprises several heighbourhoods - Bukovska, Pashkulska, Barchinska, Harmanite. The river thata passes near the village is called Dalboko dere. At 1 km in the east you can see the Televa chuka mount, and 3 km in the south - Bukat mount.

Devesilovo has relatively good infrastructure, it has electricity and water supply systems, there is bus transport that connects it with the municipality center. It is located in the close proximity of one of the main thoroughfares - transport corridor #9 Kardzhali - Makaza - Aleksandrupolis, only 5 km of the national border with Greece.

There are a functioning town hall and a community center in the village. The nearest chirch, chapel, elementary school and kindergarten are in the village of Avren. Medical care can be obtained by the GP again there. The nearest secondary school and multiprofile hospital you can find in the town of Krumovgrad.

LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

In the near village of Egrek /8 km souht-west/ one can see five operating mills, declared cultural monuments. The local people highly appreciate the mills since they are the only way to obtain flour for bread. Two of the mills are situated near the asphalt road and are convenient for tourists.

Every year in the beginning of May a traditional fair is held. The fair is also known as "The Fair of the Devesils" as it is held in the area "The Monument"or "Stork Gully" situated between the villages of Malak devesil, Golyam devesil, Devesilovo and Devesilitsa.

Near the village of Chernichevo /16 km in the east/ The White River can be seen - the first in the Eastern Rhodopes to be declared a part of the ecological network "NATURA 2000". The unique river forms different shapes called "The meandres of the White River" troughout its course.
