Village of Dabova

Dabova is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Rudozem Municipality, Smolyan region.

In Bulgaria there is another village with the same name, in Kotel Municipality, Sliven region.

It is about 8 km north from the town of Rudozem, 34 km southeast from the town of Smolyan, 15 km northwest from the town of Madan, 51 km southeast from the resort Pamporovo and 275 km in the same direction from the capital city - Sofia.

Located in a mountainous area at ​​1021 m above sea level. The climate is temperate-continental. Characterized by mild  and long winters, with heavy snow and cool summer.

The permanent population is about 10 people.

In the village of Borie / 6 km southeast / you will find a town hall, nursery school and a shop. Nearest schools and hospital are located in the town of Rudozem.

 

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Medieval fortress "Koznik" - situated on a cliff above the town of Rudozem. The castle is part of the whole fortification system, which in the past has served to defend the Rhodopes.

Ancient Temple under the  mount "Gypsy gradishte". Legend of the name of this place is the Rhodope version of the story of the Tower of Babel.

In the town of Madan:

Cave Museum "Sharenka". This is the first in Bulgaria Cave Museum.

Area Gabata - a small rock cave where were found pottery pieces from different eras.

Area Kichikaya - old Bulgarian fortress later conquered by the Romans. There are old stone buildings and walls of the fortress wall. Fully preserved is also the well carved nine meters down the cliff.

In Smolyan village guests can explore: History Museum Smolyan, Smolyan Planetarium, Rhodope Drama Theatre, "St. Vissarion", Monument of Orpheus and Eurydice, Rozhen Observatory.
