Village of Churukovo

Churukovo is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Devin Municipality, Smolyan region.
It is 33 km northeast from the town of Devin, 58 km northwest from the resort Pamporovo, about 73 km northwest from the town of Smolyan and 192 km southeast from the city of Sofia. Neighbouring village Mihalkovo is located 7 km southwest.
There is a regular bus service to and from the village.
Churukovo village is located in the Rhodope Mountains, 1314 meters above sea level. The permanent population is about 70 people. Traditional occupations are farming and potato growing.
The mountain climate is characterized by mild winter and cool summer with many sunny days.
The village has a town hall, a chapel "St. Bogoroditsa" and a shop. In Mihalkovo you will find health service. Nearest kindergarten, school and hospital are located in the town of Devin.
Tourism and landmarks
The village has favorable conditions for the development of many forms of modern tourism. Through it are passing many hiking trails leading to natural, cultural and historical attractions.
Near Churukovo there are high mountain peaks, enchanting visitors with its fabulous views. At the marked hiking trails you can reach peak "Persenk", located 6 km southeast of the village and the peak "Moder", located 6 km to the northeast.
The topography of the area is a variety cave "Dupkite", which is located 4 km from the village, in the area "Chiflika" and is very interesting for tourists visiting in January.
