Village of Chokmanovo

Chokmanovo is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Smolyan Municipality, Smolyan region.

It is located 11 km southeast from the town of Smolyan, in the same direction at 30 km from Pamporovo resort and 253 km from the capital Sofia. Village of Smilyan is located 7 km southwest.

It lies on the southern slopes of the hill Kaynadinskiya at 1063 meters altitude. The climate is temperate-continental, with a strong Mediterranean influence, with four well-defined seasons. The winter is mild, with abundance of snow, summer - cool and autumn - long and warm.

The permanent population is about 91 people.

There is a town hall, community center and shop. There are two big churches and many chapels in the suburbs. Mobile operators have cover, cable TV and Internet. At the end of the village is located a workshop for processing wild mushrooms.
In Smilyan you will find primary school and kindergarten. The nearest hospital is in the town of Smolyan.

Tourism and landmarks

In the vicinity of Chokmanovo on the road to Smolyan, is located the monastery "St. Athanasius".

Undoubtedly the biggest attraction in the area is the cave "Uhlovitsa", which is located at 14 km. It is one of the oldest in the region and the richest caves in Bulgaria. Challenge are 180 iron steps to the entrance and 288 feet inside. The cave has a hall pit and ends with four beautiful lakes in early spring are filled with water. As the largest lake stone spurts of brilliant waterfall.

In Smolyan village guests can visit: Museum of History Smolyan, Smolyan Planetarium, Rhodope Drama Theatre, "St. Vissarion", Monument of Orpheus and Eurydice, Rozhen Observatory.

For winter sports enthusiasts advantage is the close proximity of the slopes in the resort Pamporovo and Chepelare /38 km southeast/.
