Cherven is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is located in Municipality Asenovgrad, District of Plovdiv.
There is one other settlement in Bulgaria carrying the same name. It is in Ivanovo Municipality, District of Ruse.
Cherven stands about 10 km south-east of the town of Asenovgrad, about 30 km of the town of Plovdiv and about 180 km of the capital of Sofia in the same direction.
Regular bus transportation links the village to Asenovgrad and the surrounding settlements.
The village is situated in the skirts of the Rodopa Mountains, at an average altitude of 412 m.
Climate in the region is continental, with mild winters and cool summers.
The population of Cherven is about 691 residents.
The village infrastructure is settled with asphalted streets and lights, telephone lines, water-supply and electric systems and coverage of mobile operators.
There is a town house, church, post office, primary school, kindergarten, community center, shops and restaurants.
Medical servises are provided by one GP. The closest hospitals and high schools are in the municipal center of Asenovgrad.
Asenova Fortress is one of the attractions which can be visited in the region, as well as Bachkovo Monastery, located about 20 km away.
Plovdiv is another destination with numerous historical and cultural sites.
For the fishing and tourism fans, there is Cherven Reservoir about 3 km north of the village, 40 Izvora Reservoir about 10 km away in the same direction and Sushitsa Reservoir is about 6 km south-east.
