Village of Chereshkite

Chereshkite is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Smolyan Municipality, Smolyan region.

The village is situated about 36 km southwest from the town of Smolyan and in the same direction at 130 km from the town of Plovdiv and 282 km southeast from the capital city of Sofia.

Located at an altitude of 1064 meters. The climate is typical for the western part of the Rhodope Mountains. Summer is cool and humid and autumn - long and warm.

The population is about 20 people.

In the village Borikovo / 4 km southeast / there is a shop and a cafe. In the village of Mogilitsa / 5 km southeast / operate kindergarten and primary school. In the village of Arda / 7 km southeast / you will find two community centers, primary school, kindergarten and a town hall. There is also a medical center with a doctor, nurse, and dentist. The nearest medical facilities are located in the town of Smolyan.

 

Tourism and landmarks

The most famous landmark in the area are Agushevi konatsi. In 1834 in the village was built a large feudal castle (town hall) - the largest in the Balkans at the time. It is designed and implemented as a solid winter abode of Agus Agha and his sons. Construction of Agushevi Konak lasted 20 years.

In the area of ​​Mogilitsa there are 20 caves, the most interesting of these is Uhlovitsa. It is located in the area Sinite virove, on the left bank of the river Arda.

In the village Borikovo is situated one of the longest caves in the area - Borikovska cave. It is particularly not rich in formations, but it is remarkable for remains of cave bear bones.

There you can visit also the cave Tipits. Its attractiveness is increased significantly from the rock paintings of scenes from the life of prehistoric humans and animals inhabiting caves in ancient times.

In Smolyan village guests can visit: Smolyan History Museum - the oldest and largest in the Rhodope Mountains, Smolyan Planetarium, Rhodope Drama Theatre, "St. Vissarion", Monument of Orpheus and Eurydice, Rozhen Observatory.
