Village of Chepintsi

Chepintsi is village n South Bulgaria. It is located in Rudozem Municipality, Smolyan region.

There is another village with the same name situated in the suburban area of the capital city Sofia.

Chepintsi is located at the international road Smolyan-Rudodzem-Ksanti, passing through passage "Elidzhe ".
The village is 8 km  south away from the town of Rudozem, 34 km south from the district city Smolyan and 283 km southeast from the capital city Sofia.

It is situated in the Middle Rhodope, along Chepinska  (Changarderska) river, which is a tributary of the river Arda.
The altitude is about 850 m. The terrain is very rugged, mountainous.
The climate is characterized with cool summer and mild winter.

Chepintsi is the biggest village in Rudozem Municipality and fourth in Smolyan region. The permanent population is about 2051 inhabitants.

In the village there is kindergarten, primary school and community center. Medical service  is covered by the local health department with one general practitioner. The nearest Hospital is in the town of Rudozem.

Landmarks

One of the landmarks of the village is the fountain-monument "Dove" - a symbol of peace.

Impressive is the building of the mosque with a capacity of over 1000 people. In the mosque there is a library of over 800 publications in Arabic and Persian. Store and 350 volumes of manuscripts literature - Arabic calligraphy of poetry, history, ethics, and music.

A Thracian fortress in the area "Selishte" next to peak Yaneva chuka, ancient settlement in the area"Valchen kamak" and the found ancient vessels in the area " Mogilata "are an evidence of the rich historical past of these lands.

Events

Annually Chepintsi make a village sacrifice. The holiday is accompanied by a religious program and is visited by thousands of people from Smolyan region. In the last two years the celebrations are attended by a significant number of visitors from neighboring Greek villages.

In 2008 village Chepintsi was awarded with the "Unique European Settlement", which is given to villages that have made significant contributions to cultural and historical heritage of Europe.
