Chavdar is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Dospat Municipality, Smolyan region.

In Bulgaria there is another village with the same name in Chavdar Municipality, Sofia region.

It is 14 km southeast from the town of Dospat, about 86 km west from the town of Smolyan, 53 km southwest from the town of Devin and 211 km southeast from the city of Sofia.
There is regular bus transport to and from the town of Dospat.

Located in the Western Rhodopes Mountain at 1300 m altitude. The climate is Mediterranean, but due to the high altitude it is not typically expressed. Winter is mild, spring comes late, the autumn is warm and summer is cool.

The permanent population is about 330 inhabitants. The main occupation is the cultivation of potatoes, corn, peas, lentils, vegetables and other crops.

Chavdar is a village with good infrastructure - there is water and sufficient sanitation and electrification.
It has a town hall, community center, primary school, shop and restaurant. On the territory of the village Barutin there is a kindergarten and a doctor. The nearest secondary school is in the town of Dospat. Hospital can be found in the town of Devin.

Sightseeings

Dam Dospat is located approximately 14 km. The dam is the highest in Bulgaria and creates beautiful panoramic views. It is rich in fish and has excellent facilities for sport and commercial fishing.

There are many attractions that you can see: - Trigrad Gorge (45 km), Yagodinska cave (43 km), Buynovsko Gorge (41 km), Devil's Throat Cave (47 km).

In the town of Smolyan guests of the village can visit: Smolyan History Museum - the oldest and largest in the Rhodope Mountains, Planetarium Smolyan, Rhodope Drama Theatre, "St. Vissarion of Smolen", Monument of Orpheus and Eurydice, Observatory Rozhen.
