Byal izvor is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Ardino municipality, Kardzhali Region.
 
There is one more village with the same name in Bulgaria - in the municipality of Opan, Stara Zagora Region.
 
Byal izvor is located at about 10 km south-west of the town of Ardino, 41 km in the same direction from the regional center Kardzhali and about 284 km from the capital Sofia city.

The relief is mountainous and the climate - continental Mediterranean, which makes the winter mild and wet, and the summer - dry and hot. The average altitude is about 600 m.
 
Byal izvor is the largest village in the municipality of Ardino and in Kardzhali Region as a whole. Its population is about 1700 people.
 
Regular bus service connects Byal izvor with the surrounding villages. The village has electricity and water supply systems as well as wiring for Internet.  All mobile operators have coverage.
 
Byal izvor has a functioning city hall, secondary school, kindergarten, post office and police station. Moreover, the village has a community center with a library and a group of folk singers, and a bank branch. Medical service is provided by one GP and one dentist. There is also a veterinary office. The nearest multiprofile hospital is located in the town of Ardino.
 
Two dairies, two workshops and two sewing workshop provide the livelihood of the population.
 
 
LANDMARKS AND TOURISM 

The peak Momini gardi is situated near the village. The highest peak in the Eastern Rhodopes - Alada peak (1241 m) might also be of interest for tourists.
 
The  Devil's Bridge of the River Arda - one of the monuments of the Bulgarian culture, can be visited about 20 km north of the village. The medieval bridge was built in the XVI century on the site where once a Roman bridge, part of an ancient road connecting the Aegean Sea and the Thracian lowland, was built. In 2003 the area was declared a landmark.
 
About 8 km north-west of the village of Byal izvor, in the Karaburun area, were found traces of an ancient Thracian sanctuary and fortress which reveals spectacular views of almost the entire Central and Eastern Rhodopes. There is evidence of religious activity from the late Bronze Age. The cult complex dates back to VI - IV century BC. Back then it was used for ceremonies and funerals. It represents a large rock with about 90 trapezoidal niches where pottery and tiles associated with the cult of the deceased were layed.
 
About 500 meters from the Thracian sanctuary in the area of the ​​Eagle Rocks were found the ruins of one of the largest fortresses in the Rhodopes - the Kaleto fortress. The fortress represents a unique architectural site with the shape of an irregular circle with a diameter of 67 m and area of ​​0.5 acres built of stones without mortar.
